Watched List Vol. 04: Hidden Platform and Puppy You Shouldn’t Kill

In the last month of 2020, I manage to get some good movies checked off the list as you know — I desperately need distractions and what else is better than binge-watching all the highly raved films? Most of them are well-known movies for quite some time now, but I think its quite obvious that I have always been a very outdated person when it comes to western movies... so oh well.

John Wick // Part One-Three

Letterboxd: One · Two · Three

See, that's what you get when you kill the most famous assassin’s puppy and steal his car. You don't touch a man’s puppy and his car dude. You just don't. I watched part one to three at one go and honestly never thought I could hear so much gunshot in a day. Never felt more like an assassin or ninja lol. Come and think of it, can you imagine such assassin community truly exists in some part of the world and with one message the whole world is gonna come and get you? Which you know what... High chances there is but don't get me there. Back to the movie, my favourite quote of all part has got to be the one where Viggo first introduced John Wick. It sends me chills and goosebumps like man, he sure is going to come and get you, you bet.

"John Wick. A man of focus, commitment, sheer will."
(softly: that time when I see him kill three men with a fucking pencil...)

Harry Potter // Full Film Series

Letterboxd: One · Two · Three · Four · Five · Six · Seven I · Seven II

EXPECTO PATRONUMMM! Sorry, couldn't help it. The potter fever is still here folks. "How could one possibly not watch Harry Potter?" It was never a surprise for me to hear such things but hey, I lived quite fine without it for almost nineteen years. And here I am; Blimey, I love Harry Potter. I never knew what was the craze all about— why do I know Harry Potter before I even know him, why is there a Harry Potter themed area in Universal Studios, whys there hundreds of merchandise from scarfs to wands to letters... Everything until now! I always knew the magical adventure genre exhilarates me since The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina but Harry Potter is on a whole new level. There's just too many of it for me to review on one by one here and I'm definitely sure it isn't necessary for me to, but I did include some of my Letterboxd review in the link above. In case you're ever interested in my two cents worth for other movies, you can check out my Letterboxd. If you are a ”first-time-potter”(i definitely made that up) like I was, I assure you it is gooood. You have my word. Now I can't stop shouting Expecto Patronum without hoping to see a dancing doe or glowing rabbit.

And I just wanna say— Potter, stop using Stupefy and Expelliarmus on strong opponents because you know it never works!!

"After all this time?"
"Always."

Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train

#Watched in the cinema // Letterboxd

The movie us Kimetsu no Yaiba fans have been waiting for. Absolutely impromptu when I asked my best friend to watch it with me after work ends, #noregrets. I probably shouldn't talk too much about it since it isn't aired yet in some countries so I'm really just recording how the experience felt. Rengoku the Flame Hashira, the first Hashira Tanjiro was assigned to work with on a mission. Passionate, responsible, strong and faithful. Perhaps that's the reason why he's the most memorable Hashira for me. Strange for someone like me— the total opposite, to feel strongly for his character but his traits are no doubt admirable. To be this fearless whilst holding one's belief up high despite the danger, certainly unshakeable. As someone who finished the manga, I knew where everything was going yet that did not even affect any. It's even more astonishing to witness it on the big screen. With the BGM and all I felt so immersed in the movie I could feel my heart pounding so fast.

"Mother, did I do well?"
"Yes, you did."

Crazy Rich Asians

#A rather confused Singaporean passed by // Letterboxd

I remember when this movie first came out I couldn't swipe Twitter or Facebook without seeing these three words: CRAZY. RICH. ASIANS. As though it was shoved in my face and I had nowhere to escape. The way I see this movie is well, let's say a bunch of crazy rich flamboyant asians wearing fancy clothes whilst hosting and attending parties everywhere. I got that pretty well huh! Okay, I know this movie is not just that. They focused a lot on how Rachel persevered through obstacles and how she handles her boyfriend's disapproving family and scathing social circles. Don't get me wrong, I totally support how badass Rachel was. I was mostly irked by how stupid they made the boys look in the movie. It was as though they had nothing but pea-sized brain left for partying, women, and love. Even though I appreciate films trying to promote girl power, I'd love to see the boys in film contribute some aspects rather than expecting the ladies to solve all the problem. My favourite character must be Astrid. The utmost self-love and self-respect in my humble opinion is when you love yourself enough to walk away from one you loved when they no longer deserve it. Was she hurt? By all means, yes. Yes she was. She was sad, she hesitated, and she was still hurting till the end. Yet she was able to let go and went "Fuck you and your pity little whiney ego." You go girl!

As a Singaporean passing by, where do they live?! What is that accent?! Are they the Singaporeans I know? Where on earth do they even find those mansions to film in Singapore because girl, I can't relate.

"It was never my job to make you feel like a man. I can't make you something you're not."
(savageee my girl)

So I guess this is a wrap up for my first and last 2020 film list. May I pray for your health and happiness for next year. We shall leave all the pain and sadness in the year 2020 and move on. Let's live.

Until next time.
